A growing access and security systems company based in Carlisle is working with a couple of Carlisle creatives as part of its expansion into the installation and servicing of security equipment across the region.
“I’m keen to use social media, animation and video to reach as wide an audience as possible,” says Pádraig Canavan, Managing Director of Black Box Security Solutions. “Carlisle has been a brilliant base for running a UK-wide business these past five years and I’ve been amazed by some of the gifted young creative talent working in the city.”
Zach Ord of Outset Pictures has been working with Pádraig on video production including drone filming and capturing security systems on film for the new Black Box Security YouTube channel.
“We’ve been working on a great combination of practical communication videos and some atmospheric shoots involving Pádraig’s motor biking contacts making the most of Cumbria’s landscape and roads,” says Zach. “The whole project is all about Phase 2 of the Black Box strategy, moving into installation and servicing on top of supplying the equipment. It’s good to be contributing to that business growth and also supporting any local recruitment in the months ahead.”
Sam Mallard of Defaced Designs is known for his work in the music industry but his graffiti style and unusual approach to animation appealed to Pádraig. “Sam’s worked on a fairly conventional branding animation for Black Box that we’re already using on social media,” he explains, “and he’s also played a huge part of creating an animated character, a Honey Badger, who we’re going to be using in future campaigns.”
“Pádraig came to me wanting to do something different with visuals, especially for social media,” says Sam. “Together we’ve developed ideas that will make Black Box Security Solutions stand out in its market as bold and energetic as well as creating a buzz and portraying a side of the business that’s perhaps a bit surprising too.”
“We’ve found some great partners in the security industry since I set up Black Box,” says Pádraig, “and I’m now really pleased to be able to build up relationships with other young businesses who share my enthusiasm for doing things a bit differently. Zach and Sam, like our Carlisle landlords, sandwich shop contact and everyone else we’ve worked with, have been an important part of our growth as well as our loyalty to Carlisle.”
Research into the scale of the perimeter security market by Marketsandmarkets valued the sector worldwide at over £13 billion by 2020. Black Box is a distributor for some of the biggest and best international names in the sector. From a warehouse and office off Currock Road in Carlisle, the team is working on electronic security gates, car park barriers and building access systems across the country.
“I see no reason why Black Box Security Solutions shouldn’t be supplying a growing part of the UK market,” says Pádraig, “and we’ll be doing it using creative ideas and inspiration from Carlisle.”
