A PENSIONER from the Eden district who is alleged to have committed a sex offence against a child is due to stand trial later this year.
Fredrick Arthur Bartlett, 91, has pleaded not guilty to one charge, which dates back almost a decade.
This alleges that Bartlett, of Newbiggin-on-Lune, near Kirkby Stephen, engaged in sexual activity with a child during a time period spanning 12 months.
During a hearing at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI) it was agreed that Bartlett would stand trial in front of a jury.
That trial is due to start at the crown court on June 11 and, it is estimated, will last around two days.
In the meantime Bartlett, who was represented during today’s hearing by Judith McCullough, remains on bail.
