A MOTORIST accused of trying to ram a vehicle driven by his estranged wife off the road in Maryport has been found not guilty of the allegation.
Carl Ralph Glover denied a charge of dangerous driving which arose out of an alleged incident, on the town’s Mealpot Road, on the evening of October 14, 2018.
During his trial at Carlisle Crown Court, Mr Glover faced allegations made by Cindy Glover and her mother that his Ford Focus ST had swerved in front of an Hyundai i20 in which they had been driver and front seat passenger, respectively, and which contained two children.
In a 999 call played to the jury, Mrs Glover alleged to an operator: “Carl Glover’s just tried to ram us off the road.”
But Mr Glover, a 32-year-old heating engineer with no convictions or cautions to his name who was described as trustworthy and reliable in one character reference, told jurors there was no such incident.
“I wouldn’t have done what I am accused of,” he said while giving evidence from the witness box. “Definitely not.”
After hearing all evidence in the case, a jury of eight men and four women took less than half an hour to find Mr Glover, of Gray Street, Workington, unanimously not guilty of the charge he denied.
In response, Recorder Christopher Hudson told his barrister, Kim Whittlestone: “The defendant can be discharged from the dock.”
