Two talented young stylists from Carlisle College have booked their place in the final of a national student hairdressing competition.
Hairdressing students, Adrienn Ani, won the Hair Up Level 3 category and Ella Templeton was the Avant-Garde winner at the third regional heat of Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year 2020, which was open to full time students and apprentices and took place at New College Durham last month.
They will now go on to compete against other regional winners at the Grand Final, which takes place at the L’Oréal Professionnel Academy in London on 26th March.
Adrienn won for the look she created based on the theme ‘Prom Hair. She said Hair Up was her favourite style and that she takes her inspiration from watching videos of Russian stylists.
Ella, who won with a spectacular ice-inspired look, said: “I’m really happy because I worked really hard on this. I’m really creative and have always wanted to do Avant-Garde.”
Hairdressing tutor at Carlisle College, Emma Wright, praised the students hard work, she said, “The competition was such a great experience for all involved. It was a fantastic atmosphere and provided a perfect opportunity to showcase the talents of our hairdressing students, as well as our Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair & Make up students who captivated all with their fantastic make up techniques. The students impressed us all with their hard work and determination and we cannot wait for the finals. We wish Adrienn and Ella lots of luck.”
British Hairdresser of the Year Robert Eaton helped judge the North East heat. He said: “Being part of this event and seeing so much new talent is amazing.
“My advice to anybody new to the industry is just to watch as many different hairdressers as possible as you can. With social media and the opportunities that are around now, there’s never been a better time to learn.”
Emily Hilton, Concept Hair Event Manager, said: “We’re so happy to have hosted the North East heat of Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year 2020 in Durham. New College Durham was a fantastic host and we were blown away by the quality of work on show.
“Congratulations to all of our winners from the day – we can’t wait to see them all again at the Grand Final.”
