An assistant head-teacher has appeared before District Judge Gerald Chalk sitting at Carlisle Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to drink-driving on Sunday 7th February.
The judge was told police officers saw that a Ford C-Max car had collided with a hedge outside Bannatyne’s gym on Kingstown Road in Carlisle.
The driver was David Bones, 49, from River Street, Carlisle.
Bones failed a road-side breathalyser test and then gave an evidential breath test at the police station with a reading of 58-microgrammes the legal limit is 35.
Defending Neil Jones told the court that Mr Bones is on sick-leave from his position as assistant head teacher at the William Howard School in Brampton, he had drank three cans of alcohol the evening before the incident took place, his wife gave an impassioned speech to the judge explaining her husband has a serious health condition, his kidneys are failing and he needs a transplant as soon as possible, his condition is devastating for him and the family.
The judge disqualified Mr Bones from driving for one-year, with a fine of £300 and court costs of £117, he can undertake a driver’s rehabilitation course which could reduce the ban by 12-weeks.
