Three new cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) have been confirmed in Cumbria today (10 March), including one at a school in Carlisle. This brings the total cases to eight.
The school concerned is Trinity secondary school in Carlisle.
Director of Public Health Colin Cox has reminded people that the risk in Cumbria remains low.
“I understand people may be concerned, but it was always likely that the number of cases in the county would increase and I expect this to continue. The source of infection in these new cases is known. The school concerned is following advice from Public Health England and providing information to parents and pupils, it has not closed.
“People should continue to listen to the advice coming from the NHS and the Chief Medical Officer and ensure they do the simple things like regular hand washing to help prevent the spread of infection.”
The other two confirmed cases are in South Lakeland.
