The organisers of Music on the Marr have announced that this year’s festival has been cancelled.
In a statement, Richard, Tom and Dave, Geltsdale Arts said: “Like everyone we have been monitoring the Coronavirus situation carefully. Having spent considerable time weighing up the available evidence and advice, we feel we have no option other than to call off this year’s 11th event which had been set for July 16-19.
“The safety of our supporters, performers, contractors, suppliers, volunteers and all those associated with the festival is always a primary concern and so it is impossible to consider running the event with the current level of risk.
“In addition, the finances of a festival such as this are always a tricky balancing act. With so much uncertainty around the spread of the disease, likely peaks, travel difficulties, advice against social gatherings and without insurance being available, the potential losses would be too great for Geltsdale Arts to bear.
“Ironically, ticket sales are probably healthier than they have ever been at this stage in the run up. We are grateful for that support.
“We will be making a full refund to all those who bought tickets for this year as it is impossible to have a clear picture of how things will look in 2021.
“To the artists and performers who were lined up to grace Castle Carrock with their talent – we are truly sorry not to be going ahead. We know these times are just as uncertain for you and we wish everyone of you the best for the future.
“There are a range of people we need to contact in light of this announcement, please bear with us as we make our way through this process.
“Stay safe and healthy.”
