A WORKINGTON shoplifter has admitted stealing almost £500 worth of perfume from a town store on Valentine’s Day.
Ryan Crellin, 41, was caught in the act as CCTV captured his theft from the Debenhams outlet on Risman Place. Crellin snatched perfume valued at £444 while inside at around 12-20pm on February 14.
When he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (THURS), he admitted offences of theft and breaching a criminal behaviour order (CBO).
The CBO had been imposed by magistrates in June, 2018, at the request of police seeking to stamp out persistent offending. It prohibited Crellin from entering any premises affiliated to the Workington shopwatch scheme – including Debenhams.
Judge Nicholas Barker opted to defer passing sentence for the Valentine’s Day crimes. He decided instead to give Crellin a chance to prove he could stay out of trouble and engage with a community order he had received in December for previous offending, and which he also breached by committing the February crimes.
Crellin, of Harcourt Street, Workington, will return to the crown court on August 6.
In the meantime, a new-look CBO will take effect from April 23. Crellin must not enter any Workington stopwatch premises; must not enter a designated area at night; must not enter any private or unoccupied vehicle without the owner’s permission; and must not enter South William or Grey streets at any time.
