Police were called to the report of a concern for welfare of a child in Sainsbury’s Carlisle at 1:30pm today (May 5).
It was reported the child was with a man who was under the influence. There was also reports the man had a knife this was found not to be the case.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A 30-year-old man from Carlisle was arrested on suspicion of a child neglect offence and possession of a controlled drug class B and remains in police custody.
“There was no risk to the child or the wider public as a result of this incident and officers would like to thank the concerned members of the public and Sainsbury’s staff for their support.”
