Muncaster Castle should have been hosting a 3 day Victorious Food Fest from Friday 8th to Sunday !0th May to celebrate 75 years since VE Day.
Although this has not been possible due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Pennington Family have been determined to ensure the occasion is celebrated and wanted to give a big thank you to all those who gave up so much and worked so hard to ensure victory 75 years ago.
Undeterred they have mounted two tributes to the brave heroes from 75 years ago while not forgetting the valiant NHS & other key worker heroes of today fighting against the latest threat to Britain and the UK.
So on Thursday 7th May (tonight) they will be lighting up the Castle after dark with a tribute to all NHS & Key Workers while clapping furiously at 8pm. On Friday 8th they will be honouring all veterans of the Second World War with a different light show tribute. A tribute has also been mown into the grass in front of the Castle, mirroring the official VE Day logo but adding the word “Heroes” for the veterans of WW2 and the current Covid-19 crisis.
Nevertheless, everyone still enjoys a good party despite lockdown. The Muncaster Bears have hosted their own VE Celebrations at the Castle.
In addition, Pennington Hotels have arranged a very popular Take-Away Afternoon Tea for locals in aid of the NSPCC which has raised well over £1000 for the charity and encourages everyone to celebrate the exploits of our VE Day veterans by enjoying a cup of tea & a bit of cake on Friday the 8th safely at home, despite lockdown. All very British!
They encourage anyone enjoying their Pennington Hotels/NSPCC Afternoon Tea to submit pictures to [email protected] and they will share a selection of them on social media links.
