A CARLISLE man has been told that a prison sentence is a “distinct possibility” after he admitted a knife attack on his brother.
Andrew Leslie Ryan, 41, pleaded guilty to one offence when he appeared at the city’s crown court over a video link from custody this morning (TUES).
This was the unlawful wounding of Matthew Ryan, on December 13 last year.
The case was adjourned by Judge Nicholas Barker, who ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report by the probation service.
A psychiatric report will also be compiled, Judge Barker making reference during today’s hearing of Ryan’s “complex” mental health difficulties following time spent serving in the Army.
The case was adjourned ahead of a crown court sentencing hearing which is due to take place on June 9. Ryan, of Millholme Avenue, Currock, was remanded in custody in the meantime.
“Of course it is a serious matter,” he was told by Judge Barker, who added: “Custody is a distinct possibility given that this is an attack with a knife.”
