For the last 20 years, The Cumbria Soaring Club have run the ever popular “Lakes Charity Classic” paragliding competition raising money for local charities and good causes.
The June 2020 event has been delayed until September – and who knows what will happen then?
However, because the flyers know that local charities need funds now, they have made a donation of £1,500 split between three local foodbanks – in Kendal, Carlisle and North Lakes (based in Cockermouth and supporting communities on the west coast).
Chair of the club, Jackie Knights said: “Obviously we can’t run our charity event this June, but we’d like to give what little we can, now, to support those local people who are struggling to manage.
“If we can run our flying competition later in the year, we’ll be able to make a bigger donation.
“However, at the moment, all our members recognise the importance of supporting the NHS and other front-line workers.”
