Avanti West Coast have commissioned an artist, Sophie Martin based on the edge of the Lake District to create artwork that depicts the Lakes to support the message the region is closed to visitors during the COVID-19 crisis.
This is part of a series of artwork showcasing destinations along the West Coast Main Line to remind people on Social Media that our services are for those making essential journeys and who have no alternative.
A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast said: “We’re lucky to serve beautiful destinations along the West Coast Main Line but whilst the UK responds to COVID-19, our vital services are for those making essential journeys or have no alternative to use public transport.
“To remind people of this and support the message that the Lake District is closed to visitors, we commissioned local artist, Sophie, to come up with an idea that depicts the Lakes so people can still appreciate what it has to offer from the comfort of their own home.”
Sophie said: “Herdwick sheep and outdoors activities epitomise the Lake District for me so this seemed the perfect combination to get the message across. Plus I love drawing sheep! Hopefully people will take heed and not travel to the area unnecessarily and leave the fells to our woolly friends to enjoy for now!”
