United Utilities has announced that it will be continuing its pipe improvement project in the Denton Holme area of Carlisle at the end of June 2020.
The water firm had to pause the project last year, while the demolition of the Central Hotel on Victoria Viaduct was carried out, but will restart on 29 June 2020 at three locations – Denton Street, Charlotte Street and Milbourne Street.
United Utilities’ Paul Wheadon said: “While this part of the project has been temporarily halted, we’ve concentrated our efforts on completing our work at Warwick Road which is now nearly finished.
“We’ll do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum, during this essential work, and will be working at weekends so we can complete the job as quickly as possible.
“There will be diversion signs in place to help direct traffic around our working areas and access to all properties will be available as normal.
“We’d like to extend our thanks to residents for their continued patience and cooperation while we’re working to clean and refurbish over 32km of our larger water pipes.”
The following road closures will be in place during the works:
Milbourne Street: There will be a road closure in place at the junction of Milbourne Street and Bridge Street for approximately four weeks. Access to Milbourne Court and People First Cumbria will be via Charlotte Street.
Charlotte Street: Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place at Charlotte Street near to Madford Retail Park for approximately two weeks.
Denton Street: A road closure will be in place at the junction of Denton Street and Nelson Bridge for approximately four weeks and a signed diversion route will be in place.
