If you’ve ever felt daunted by digital marketing, a new Cumbrian business has launched that might be just the thing you need.
Kate Wright Digital, founded by (yes, you’ve guessed it) Kate Wright, opened its virtual doors on Wednesday 1 July.
Offering a range of services encompassing everything from website content to social media support, bubbly entrepreneur Kate says she’s got the smarts to sort your digital marketing right out.
“Over the years, I’ve met so many people who are just completely bewildered by the idea of digital marketing. Often they’re worried they’ll do something silly or wrong, or they’re just plain mystified by it all and do not know where to start. These are the people I’d really like to help,” Kate said.
“With a little bit of coaching and a push in the right direction, digital marketing can make a big difference. Not just to how successful you are. It could change the way you do business altogether!”
Kate is also keen to help businesses who don’t have the time or internal resources to manage their own digital communications.
“I’ve realised a lot of companies struggle to find the time to manage their own websites and social media, or figure out how to use digital marketing to their advantage. Either that or they’ve been unable to recruit someone with the right skills to do it for them,” explains Kate.
“That’s where I can step in and lift that burden from their shoulders. I can either manage that side of things for them on a monthly retainer, or I can get them off to a running start, then upskill their team and show them how to run it themselves.”
Kate, who originally hails from the Scottish Borders, moved to Cumbria after living and working in London for 10 years. There she worked for some of the biggest names in media and publishing including Hearst Digital, Virgin Media, Condé Nast and Penguin Books.
“It was a wild few years full of incredible, once in a lifetime experiences. I got to work with and meet a lot of really amazing people,” says Kate. “It’s hard to sum up what it was like, really – it was all so crazy, exciting and all consuming!”
Kate quit her life in London in 2013 to volunteer as a photographer and project manager with a sustainable development charity based in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. “Working for Raleigh International was a life changing experience. I know that sounds corny but it really was.”
“I worked with people who’d come from all over the world to help others and make all these tiny, remote, off the grid communities better places to live. For those few months, we all lived a very simple life, eating only very basic rations, building things, working together – it changed everyone involved. Made us happier. I knew after that I didn’t want my life to go back to how it was before.”
After returning to the UK in 2014, Kate moved to Carlisle to be closer to her family. There she worked for Inspira and later, after moving to west Cumbria, One Little Bird PR.
“Moving to Cumbria is the best decision I ever made. I lived here in the late 90s but was too young to appreciate it at the time. I love where I live, it’s so beautiful and peaceful. I feel very blessed to be so close to so many natural wonders and the slower pace suits me much more than the craziness of London.”
With her new business now up and running, Kate is excited about this new chapter and what the future holds. “I’ve been wanting to start my own business for so long and now it’s finally happening. I can’t wait to see how it develops over the next few weeks and months and I’m looking forward to being able to help some of the fantastic businesses that call Cumbria home.”
