Carlisle residents are being urged to apply for free central heating grants before the scheme ends later this month.
The closing date for new applications for Carlisle City Council’s Warm Homes Scheme to install a new fully funded (free) gas central heating system for homes is now Wednesday 30 September 2020.
The Warm Homes Fund has been provided by National Grid to incentivise the installation of central heating to make heating homes more affordable. As well as gas, the council may also fund the cost of oil, LPG or air source heat pump heating systems for homes in rural areas of Carlisle and District.
Homelife Carlisle Home Improvement Agency, provided by Carlisle City Council, is administering the grants and each home will have an energy survey and support offered to access grants towards insulation or affordable heating. They are working with Warmer Communities to deliver the scheme. Warmer Communities is a Community Interest Company provided by Thrift Energy.
Free mains gas connections are also available for viable properties through the Fuel Poor Network Extension Scheme.
Eligibility for the scheme is not wholly dependent on household income but households with a low income are encouraged to apply. Applications must be received by the closing date.

Carlisle City Cllr Paul Nedved Portfolio holder for Economy, Enterprise and Housing, said: “Working with Warmer Communities we are improving the energy efficiency of local homes whilst at the same time helping them keep safe and warm. I’d urge local residents to check to see if they are eligible for the grants. There are only a few weeks to apply – so please act now!”
