On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual Sale of 547 Suffolk, Texel, Beltex, Charollais and Continental Breeding Rams.
What a fantastic show of tups from start to finish, the very high standard of stock was a great credit to all vendors. Averages across the board would be up £120-£150 a head on the year, with all vendors going home highly delighted with their returns.
Topping the sale at £1550 was an excellent Texel shearling from Messrs R Pigg & Son, Gaitsgill Hall, selling to Mr WW Miller. This run of shearlings averaged £740.
This was closely followed at £1400 for another Texel shearling, this one had great style and shape from the annual consignment from Mr G Pyman, Park View, Stainton, purchased by Mr WH Brass, Low Row. This run of both shearlings and lambs averaged a mind blowing £839.29.
Suffolk’s met an unbelievable trade with vendors achieving prices much higher than expected. Suffolk lambs topped at £900 for a strong boned lengthy lamb from Messrs TE Irving & Sons, East Cliff, purchased by Messrs AM & PM Bowman & Son, Crindledyke, this run of twelve Suffolk Lambs and shearlings averaged £689.
Suffolk shearlings with great carcase from Messrs WR & FD Siddle, Honeypot, sold to a top of £850, selling to Messrs Mitchinson, Workington. This run of eight naturally bred sheep averaged £712.50.
