A Cumbria charity has successfully secured £3,000 thanks to Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect award scheme.
Team Evie, which supports sick children and their families across the North East and Cumbria was awarded funding after being shortlisted by the convenience retailer as one of three causes and charities in Northern England to receive financial support from an £84,000 pot.
Stanhope Silver Prize Band in County Durham and Northern Butterflies in Northumberland have also each been awarded £3,000 from Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect award scheme in Northern England.
In normal times, Scotmid would typically select a shortlist of community projects which its members then vote on to allocate different amounts of funding. However, due to the pandemic, the Scotmid Board agreed that all shortlisted charities and community groups would receive equal amounts of funding within each region.
Greg Johnston, CEO at Team Evie, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support we have received from Scotmid and their wonderful members. We work really hard at Team Evie to support sick children and their families across our region, but the reality is without support from brilliant people and businesses like Scotmid we wouldn’t be able to help as many families as we do!
“Being able to continue to provide our packs to families in the Special Care Baby Units across our region is something that will make a huge difference to so many families at their time of need.”
Since Scotmid’s Community Connect launched in 2017, more than £385,000 has been awarded to 39 good cause groups enabling key projects to come to life in local areas.
Harry Cairney, President of Scotmid, said: “The pandemic has created numerous challenges for communities to overcome and adapt to. Community Connect is one of the main ways we can support the communities that we serve and we are delighted to provide Team Evie with funding as it continues to provide vital support to the Cumbria community.”
