BARRNON Media, the owner of the Cumberland & Westmorland Herald and the Keswick Reminder, is expanding again.
The seven-month old company has bought, Cumbria Crack, for an undisclosed sum.
Barrnon Media owner Andy Barr called the deal significant.
“It is an important strategic purchase as we build our company and our brand,” he said.
The core Cumbria Crack news website is popular among the 24-35-year-old demographic, especially those using a mobile phone.
It attracts between one and two million view each month and half a million readers. In addition to its 100k Twitter followers, it has 150k Facebook fans.
Cumbria Crack owner Carl Fallowfield said: “I’ve spent 10 years building up this business. It’s been hard work but it is going to a good home and the time is right to hand it over.
“Cumbria Crack has dominated my life for many years and I look forward to having more free time to enjoy our beautiful countryside.”
Barrnon Media managing director John Holliday said the deal would help the business grow as well as offering advertisers a wider range of options.
“It has taken time to get it over the line but I hope we can now build on Carl’s foundations and attack growth,” he said.
Cumbria Crack will relaunch under the ownership of Barrnon on 1st December.
