DaCE Cumbria is a charity, which is run and managed by disabled people and has supported thousands of people since it was established in 1999. We support 700 disabled people across Cumbria who control their own health or care arrangements and employ their own staff. We offer advice, a payroll service and training for PA’s. 400 disabled people who live in Carlisle or Eden access our welfare benefits service each year and our tribunal service has a 90% success rate. Our Centre for Independent Living in Carlisle stocks a wide range of daily living aids and equipment that you can buy, or use a prescription to pay for. We’ve also recycled 11,250 pieces of disability equipment, which would have otherwise gone to landfill.
Denise Moses, Chair of DaCE Cumbria said: “The Covid-19 crisis has been particularly difficult for disabled people. Many disabled people are extremely vulnerable to Covid-19, are shielding at home and need help to access support and services. We hope that our new dedicated helpline can meet this gap. I’d encourage any disabled person who needs advice to pick up the phone and call us.”
