Two new children’s books, written by a West Cumbrian author, are now on sale to raise money for local charities.
Rachel Suddart has written Howard’s Hugs and Howard’s Holiday, based on her daughter Emily and her toy dog Howard. They are available for £5 each.
She will be giving 50p from every copy of Howard’s to Hug A Mug, a service to help people find support and advice in Maryport and 50p from every copy of Howard’s Holiday sold will be given to Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
Designed for younger readers with a message of friendship, the books were printed by Carlisle’s LL Creative Design and Border Offset Printer.
The books have been illustrated by Rachel’s cousin Joanne Young.
Rachel said: “It has been a tough time for everyone this year and we just wanted to do something positive.
“Charities everywhere have been hit hard by COVID-19 and there are many West Cumbrian families who are struggling with all sorts of challenges.
“We wanted to use the stories to bring people a little bit of sunshine to their life, as well as raise funds for these vital services.”
Rachel’s daughter Emily, 11, a year seven pupil at Keswick School, said: “Everyone in our family is crazy about reading and it’s amazing to see yourself in print in an actual story.”
Rachel and Joanne have also created a limited edition A5 calendar with illustrations from both stories in time for the new year.
